I was born and raised in Southern California in a loving home with 3 sisters and one brother. As a child, my dream was to become a teacher. I attended Santa Monica College where I worked with the Head Start Program and enjoyed working with young children so much that I changed my major to Early Childhood Education. While attending College, I worked at Sears Pico where I managed the Children’s Department.
While working at Sears I met my husband, and we’ve been happily married since. In our first year of marriage I was offered a teaching position at Culver City Presbyterian Pre-School, which I happily accepted, and subsequently taught there for 3 years. God then blessed us with a beautiful baby boy. When he was 4 month old some of the mothers at the pre-school who knew I was home with my baby asked me if I would watch their little ones, and that is how I got started providing Home Day Care.
I provided Home Day Care for 7 years, and then was offered the position of Activity Director at a convalescent home in Anaheim where I enjoyed working with the residents and running the activities. After a year I realized that the job was taking too much time away from my family, and I felt I had waited too long to be a mom not to be able to enjoy those years. I decided to go back to College and worked on my ECE (Early Childhood Education) classes, and then accepted a teaching position at Westminster Lutheran Pre-School where I worked as the Blue Room Teacher for 13 years.
In 2002, my husband and I were on a cruise to Mexico for our 25th wedding anniversary when I told him that I would really like to get back into providing Home Day Care. He told me that if I really would like to do that, he would build a room on the back of the house for the children. We built the room and set up the backyard for the children, and then opened up Miss Jeanette’s Day Care in Huntington Beach!
I am so happy working with the wonderful children and their families that I have had over the last 15 years. I have always loved children, and although I was blessed with only one child of my own, I have been blessed with the love of many children throughout the years of teaching and providing Home Day Care.
My son is now Married and he gave us a wonderful Daughter-in-law, and they have given us 2 beautiful grandchildren – age 10, and age 7. God has blessed me and I hope God blesses me with many more children in my Day Care.
